¢10 wage increase per every ¢100,000 approved for public sector

The biannual increase in public sector wages will be ¢10 per every ¢100,000 according what the Government established on Thursday afternoon.

In addition, the government will add a technical adjustment of 0.75% to the basic salary of the first salary level of the Public Administration’s Salary Scale, which corresponds to the Miscellaneous Civil Service 1 class.

The announcement was made by Deputy Minister of Labour, Alfredo Hasbum.

For the following salary levels, a gradual decrease of this percentage (0.75%) shall apply until level 409, which will only increase 0.01% for the cost of life.

That is, this technical adjustment applies to positions in the Public Administration’s Salary Scale whose base salary is less than ¢ 442,350.

Hasbum recognized “the effort” made by the Government to give higher wages to the workers of the lowest pay scales.

The increase for state sector employees applies retroactively from July 1st and will be deposited in the coming weeks.

The announcement was met with harsh criticism from Gilberto Cascante, coordinator of Block Association and Social Unit (BUSSCO).

Most of the wealth is in the hands of people with a lot of money. The public sector boosts the economy of the country and sees that their quality of life deteriorates,”

said Cascante.
