Only 50% of the insured in the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) was treated on August 5th in general medicine in one of the hospitals in the country, after the strike of the unions of the health sector, according to the press department of the institution.
According to the entity’s data, more than 12 thousand officials (12,101) joined the movement, which represents 14,893 missed appointments.
The other half of the population that had a scheduled appointment did not receive attention due to the lack of personnel that joined the strike movement called by the institutional unions,”
said the press department.
More than 44% of the specialized medical consultation did not take place and 66% of the scheduled procedures were not performed. In the case of surgeries, in the first shift, they registered an affectation of 95% of the scheduled ambulatory surgeries and 94% of the elective surgery.
Mario Ruiz Cubillo, CCSS medical manager, thanked the leaders of each medical center for maintaining essential services for the population in order to ensure continuity of services and care in ebáis, health areas and hospitals.
On the other hand, Olga Arguedas, director of the National Children’s Hospital (HNN), indicated that more than one thousand officials of this health facility showed up to work.
At Heredia hospital, 40% of the staff joined the movement , 50% of the specialist doctors joined, so 80% of the External Consultation was suspended. Similarly, in Monseñor Sanabria hospital 49% of the specialists joined the movement.
In addition, the CCSS attorneys submitted to the Labor Court of the First Judicial Circuit of San José, Section I, the request the movement to be declared as illegal.
