16 corpses of migrants were found on a beach in Libya

On October 30th, The Red Crescent movement declared that 16 corpses of migrants were washed out on a beach in Libya. They died trying to reach Europe across the Mediterranean Sea.

We could not verify the nationalities of the victims, who seem to have drowned after their boat capsized. No documentation was found. The remains were handed over to the authorities, who will be responsible for the burial,

declared James the Busefi, local spokesman for the Red Crescent Movement.

The human traffickers are taking advantage of the chaos in Libya since the popular revolt that ousted Dictator Moammar Gadhafi in 2011. Most of the boats set sail west to Italy, which is just 300 km away.

According to William Spindler, spokesman for the UN Agency for Refugees (UNHCR), at least 3,800 people have died or disappeared in the Mediterranean Sea so far this year.
