2020 will be windier and rainier than normal in the Caribbean

December 10, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The beginning of 2020 will be windier than normal throughout the country. In addition, in the Caribbean, the first months of the year will be very rainy. This follows from a forecast made by the National Meteorological Institute (IMN) and released on Monday, December 8th.

Werner Stolz, IMI director ai, said at a press conference that the speed of wind gusts will vary between 90 and 100 kilometers per hour.

The institution presented a report stating that

numerical weather models forecast windier conditions than normal, particularly in January and February. The month of December will be very variable, with occasional periods of strong wind.

In addition, in the country the cold push and front season will be normal or slightly more active.

On the other hand, from December 2019 to March 2020, conditions typical of the dry season or normal conditions in the Pacific, Central Valley, Valle del General, Guatuso, Los Chiles and Upala are expected.

However, the rest of the country will not have the same conditions. From January the North Zone and the North Caribbean will enter the rainy season. In the South Caribbean, these conditions could start from December and extend until February. The IMN indicated that it could even generate events with rains “slightly above average”.
