22 tourists were rescued from the Chirripó National Park

A group of 22 tourists who were trapped in Chirripó National Park was evacuated on Sunday by representatives of the National Conservation Area System (SINAC) of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE).

Luis Diego Román, from SINAC, explained the tourists had been there since the emergency began on Wednesday. They were 21 nationals and a 25-year-old foreigner from New Zealand.

On Saturday, SINAC officials led these people, who were in Base Crestones shelter of the National Park.

Volunteer forest stewards and firefighters did not hesitate to collaborate with the authorities.

Fortunately, the operation was a success and the tourists were transferred to a safe area in perfect health conditions,”

said the authorities.
