The Ministry of Public Education (MEP) paid 20 billion colones to domestic teachers who work in poor, vulnerable areas.
23,000 teachers received the Lower Development Area Incentive payment. It is traditionally given around midyear to those teachers who work regularly in the ministry’s institutions. The money transfer was held on July, 6th.
This incentive is a recognition for working in those low-development areas and of course, it is not part of their regular salary,
said Yaxinia Díaz, MEP’s Human Resources chief.
In November, the ministry will pay the same incentive to other 726 non-regular teachers or who were appointed after February, 1st this year.
