The Vulcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) recorded more than 400 aftershocks after the earthquake that took place in Capellades de Alvarado in Cartago.
The 5-kilometer-deep earthquake was recorded at 6:25 pm, on November 30th. It had a 5.3 magnitude. The aftershocks had magnitudes lower to 4.3 degrees.
According to Ronny Quintero, an expert from the OVSICORI, the volcanic activity has not changed in the seismic records of the stations located at the top of Turrialba Volcano.
OVSICORI reported that several houses were affected with structural damage, cracks or small landslides in San Martin de Irazú, Capellades, San Rafael, Pacayas and Juan Viñas.
Emergency committees enabled local shelters for people whose houses have structural damage or could be affected by landslides,
added Quintero.
