700 migrants have moved to new care center

In less than a month, more than 700 migrants, Haitians and Africans, were transferred to the new temporary care center called “El Cruce”, located in La Cruz de Guanacaste.

They have been gradually evicted from several public spaces in the area of Peñas Blancas, on the northern border with Nicaragua. All of the migrants are expected to be relocated to the new place, which could receive up to a thousand people, according to estimates of the executive.

In the CATEM of “El Cruce” there are 38 tents equipped to receive 30 people each, plus 36 showers and 40 restrooms.

This place has nursing, food preparation, storage, cleaning and security for the migrants.

This action allowed to relieve congestion on Deldu park, which migrants took as their shelter. There are currently fewer than 200 people. In El Jobo Care Center there are about 150 more migrants.

Other sites, such as Las Vueltas Care Center, were closed.

According to estimates by the authorities there are about four thousand migrants in the country, with a daily average arrival of one hundred people, both in Peñas Blancas and Paso Canoas.
