The bodies of eight, apparently-African, without documentation foreigners, were found on the shores of Lake Nicaragua. They were trying to cross to the United States.
The dead bodies (7 men and a pregnant woman) were found in state of decomposition on the southern shore of Lake Nicaragua in Cárdenas municipality, it was confirmed by non-commissioned officer Mirian Rugama.
Authorities suspect that these immigrants illegally tried to enter Nicaragua from Costa Rica by Sapoa River, which flows into Lake Nicaragua, near the border between both countries.
Police confirmed that by their physical characteristics and clothing, they were presumedly Africans and they were trying to reach the United States.
To prevent the entry of immigrants without documentations, Nicaragua reinforced controls in its borders in November and it didn’t allow Cubans and other nationalities immigrants to cross them. They were trying to go to America.
The measure keeps hundreds of Haitians and Africans in Peñas Blancas, Costa Rica border.
