Otto hurricane’s impact could affect some 8,000 hectares of rice sown in the Brunca, Central Pacific and Chorotega regions, according to the Market Research Unit of the National Rice Corporation (CONARROZ).
Of these, about 1,611 hectares are in the Brunca region; And 287 in the Central Pacific, both areas declared on red alert, while another 6,000 are located in the Chorotega region, under yellow alert at the time.
According Minor Barboza, CEO of Conarroz, these regions are under monitoring since the emergency began.
It is estimated that crops owned by about a hundred producers are likely to be affected by the hurricane,”
said Minor.
The man added that in the Brunca region visits have been made to those farms where access was allowed, given that some rice areas have been cut off by the rains.
In the Central Pacific, monitoring of crops planted two months ago is constant, while in Chorotega about 6,000 of the 15,000 planted hectares are yet to be harvested.
In the Huetar Atlántica and Huetar Norte regions, classified as red alert regions, producers are in the process of planting or with newly planted crops that could also be affected with the arrival of Hurricane Otto.
