In order for Costa Rica to achieve a developed country status it must address some issues that prevent it from being included in the 20% of best performing countries.
The Development Observatory (ODD) at the University of Costa Rica presented the results of an analysis of 14 international indicators that place Costa Rica among the world’s territories with medium-high development.
The ODD also determined the areas the government should focus on to define a state policy towards development: a fiscal reform in the economic area, improving education in the social area, water treatment in the environmental area, boosting roadwork in the infrastructural area, efficiency in the justice area, smart budget management in the governmental area, investors’ protection in the business area, promotion in the technology, research and innovation area, and lowering crime rates in the global welfare area.
