Legislator Fabricio Alvarado is preparing a bill to increase prison sentences for abortions.
The legislator explained that he started working on the text with his legal adviser and he has not estimated yet how many years the proposed penalty would be.
We want to do it very carefully in order to do it right and to have the possibility of putting it into practice. In addition, the pregnant woman and the person who conducts the abortion in clandestine clinics are not the same,
declared Alvarado.
He also explained that they are taking into account experts in the field’s opinions and reviewing legislations from other countries.
He clarified that his party, Restauración Nacional, does not support abortion at all, but he explained that, depending on the case, alternatives to imprisonment can considered.
He said that the initiative is intended to be ready within two weeks.
