The Directorate General of Customs held at the Juan Santamaria International Airport 62 bags (1021.5 kilograms) with 53 different products to travelers from the United States, Panama, Mexico, Colombia and Europe, among others, for omitting the declaration of these goods.
It is presumed the travelers brought spare parts for vehicles, gold and silver jewelry, new clothes and cosmetics to the country for commercial purposes and not for personal use as required by law.
Benito Coghi, Director General of Customs, said the detained luggage were placed under customs control for the payment of the respective tax and referred to a Customs Depositary (private company).
The owners of these goods must pay additional fees for the storage and others face penalty procedures.
