The former president and pre-candidate from the National Liberation Party (PLN), José María Figueres, issued a message on social networks to apologize for the Alcatel case.
The candidate recognized that he is the target of insults and strong criticism for his actions in the past, including the closure of Instituto Costarricense de Ferrocarriles (INCOFER) and Banco Anglo, both actions that took place during his government between 1994 and 1998.
Regarding Alcatel case, the former president denied that he fled the country. Figueres clarified that it isn’t true that he has been out of Costa Rica for 10 years and insisted that there was never an accusation against him.
The former president added that there is still a lot of campaign time and that the polls “are just a snapshot of the moment”.
