México Hospital temporarily suspended scheduled surgeries for a period of 3-4 weeks.
According to Douglas Montero, director of the medical center, the decision was made due to the number of patients who need emergency surgeries, which usually are complex and need to remain in intensive care units. Among these, specialists mention patients with brain tumors, aneurysms, different types of cancer and people assisted after suffering a traffic accident.
Authorities at the Hospital assure that, at this moment, the unit of intensive therapy is at its full capacity. In the coming days, the hospital will open an area for 10 more beds on the 2nd and 4th floor, contemplated for patients who need critical care.
The hospital informed that the surgeries that are being suspended can wait because they do not put patients’ life at risk. It includes gallbladder, spine, hernias, and knees surgeries, among others.
