At age 65, gastric problems weigh you down. For this reason, a woman named Chacón went to the doctor in Marcial Fallas Clinic of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS). The doctor indicated that it was best to perform an abdominal ultrasound.
However, she must wait until 2025 to have the procedure performed, because they said “her case was not urgent”.
Chacón knocked on the doors of the Constitutional Court, where she hopes to receive help, since she believes it is disproportionate and unreasonable to wait more than eight years to be treated.
In this case it is particularly important that Mrs. Chacón, who could suffer from a dangerous condition, has to wait until March 10, 2025, which will undoubtedly worsen this lady’s quality of life,”
said the appeal.
Her lawyer, Mario Zamora, argues that
giving medical appointments 8 years from now restricts the fundamental right to health derived from Article 21 of the Constitution and the right to proper functioning of public services.”
The patient’s hope now lies in the fact that the judges favor her and that the CCSS provides medical care for her before it is too late.
