The Committee on Municipal Affairs of the Legislative Assembly concluded the process of motions to a project that aims to reform the Building Law.
The initiative, promoted by legislator Marco Vinicio Redondo, would update the regulations that have been used in the last 50 years.
Currently, if you make an arrangement to your house or a minor work that costs more than ¢ 5,000, you must have all the municipal permits, as if it were a major building. That’s ridiculous because you cannot even buy a sack of cement with ¢ 5,000. What happens then is that the rule promotes illegality because no one is going to go to report buildings on such a small amount,
declared Redondo.
According to the legislator, the reform is supported by a great number of parliamentary groups and many municipalities in the country that admits the relevance of modifying an obsolete law.
The reform states that owners of works under 8 base salaries should only apply for the municipal license.
It would also empower municipalities to create regulations that fit the canton realities.
Redondo added that the text is likely to be adopted in plenary at the current extraordinary session.
