Costa Rica pilot to serve 13 months more in federal case
Carlos Chinchilla, a Costa Rican pilot convicted of money laundering in the Southern District Court of New York will be required to serve 13 months in prison, to complete the 3 year term of his sentence for money laundering. Prosecutors had sought a 10 year sentence, but this was reduced when Chinchilla cooperated with authorities and turned over information on a land deal in Guanacaste. His arrest came when he tried to broker the deal while in the United States. Chinchilla and another man were arrested upon arrival at JFK airport in New York.
