On Tuesday morning, inspectors from China visited pineapple production plants in Costa Rica, aiming to make progress in the process for the commercial opening for this fruit in China.
The AQSIQ (Quality Supervision and Inspection Agency) in charge of the process is made up of representatives Chen Siyuan and Quiu Zhankui, who will be conducting health inspection visits for one week.
The tests will focus mainly on the packaging areas. However, they will also review the field sectors as stated by Abel Cháves, president of CANAPEP.
The goal of this process is to comply with a number of quality requirements before allowing food products to enter the Chinese market. With this visit, Costa Rica would be fulfilling the last requirement to endorse the access to the Asian country.
This process has been led by CADEXCO (Chamber of Exporters of Costa Rica) and CANAPEP (National Chamber of Pineapple Producers and Exporters), which have supported a series of measures to streamline the process.
The efforts that have been made in the Chamber to make this opening possible have been focused on the creation of an exclusive working group to analyze and create strategic mechanisms to introduce pineapple and other products to the Chinese market,
said Laura Bonilla, president of CADEXCO.
Abel Cháves stated he hopes the study’s resolutiona are given soon so that they can start the export process.
In Costa Rica, the pineapple producing sector creates about 30 thousand direct jobs.
