An extension project aims to contribute to the development of Buenos Aires, Puntarenas, through planning and management actions for the future urban growth of the area.
It is the “Accompaniment for the territorial management of the Central District of the Canton of Buenos Aires of Puntarenas” project, which is led by an interdisciplinary and interinstitutional team made up of people from the canton, the Municipality of Buenos Aires and the School of Architecture and Urbanism from the Technological Institute of Costa Rica.
The initiative intends to assure that the development in the area is consistent with the characteristics of the environment and, in turn, serve to enhance the generation of endogenous development of the canton, where many indigenous people live.
Salitre, Cabagra, Boruca, Gorré, Térraba, Coto Brus and Ujarrás, are part of the 7 indigenous territories that are located in Buenos Aires.
Among them, 5 native ethnic groups are found: they are Bribri, Brunka, Teribe, Gnobe and Cabécar.
Initially, members of the project focused on the territorial study and training of municipal technicians and members of the Municipal Council.
In addition, they managed to develop activities linked to the participation process Furthermore, they also made official the Commission for the updating of the Cantonal Regulatory Plan.
Thanks to this, the canton is expected to grow in a harmonious way in which development is not limited and its inhabitants feel included.
