The contribution of the non-metallic mining sector increased favorably during the last years.
According to data from the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE), this increase coincides with the increase in infrastructure and roads construction in the country.
Mining -as long as it is sustainable with the environment- is possible, because we depend on it for a series of activities, mainly the municipalities that use it in their daily work,”
said Alberto Vásquez, Coordinator of the Environmental Geo-mining Management Unit.
Two types of mining are carried out in the country: metal mining, consisting of the extraction of gold, copper and bauxite, and the non-metallic mining of quarries, pits, sand and stones from public domain sources.
Most of these materials are used for the construction of road bridges, medical equipment, aircraft parts, tape recorders and cell phones.
As part of the activities planned in the framework of World Earth Day, national and Mexican experts will have the task of analyzing the current situation of this sector.
In this celebration also will be held talks and round tables with topics such as ecological mining, production and needs.
