Jorge Arguedas and Ligia Fallas are not legislators of Frente Amplio, they have never been, they have always denied the party that took them to Parliament, its leadership and now its parliamentary faction,”
said on Wednesday the leader of the political grouping.
In a public statement, the Political Commission of the party censured that both lawmakers favored the election of the Christian legislator and evangelical pastor, Gonzalo Ramírez, as the new president of the Legislative Assembly.
Arguedas and Fallas voted for themselves in the third round of the election and with this decision their votes went to Ramírez, from Renovación Costarricense, who had the majority of votes.
Both legislators also separated from the criterion of the fraction and joined a bloc with independent legislators Carlos Hernández and Carmen Quesada, who was elected as the first secretary of the new Legislative Directory.
We made a serious mistake by giving them space on our ballots and asking for a vote for them. We invite Mr. Arguedas and Mrs. Fallas to formally leave the fraction,”
added the document.
The statement forgives Congresswoman Suray Carrillo and criticizes Gerardo Vargas Varela, whose votes also went to Ramírez.
Carrillo, who resigned as head of fraction on Tuesday night, issued a null vote; and Vargas Varela voted for himself.
