Although the thousands of Catholics who walk to the Basilica of the Angels in Cartago are driven by their faith, their bodies receive a great impact due to the pilgrimage.
The Red Cross has already assisted hundreds of pilgrims, in the special operation they perform for this activity. According to the Statistical Report of the institution, until 11:00 a.m. on August 1st 1,247 patients has been served.
The Red Cross has nine seats on the pilgrimage route. The site where the most faithful have needed medical assistance is in the Basilica. There, almost 600 pilgrims received assistance to cope with the effects on their bodies.
63% of the patients are women and most of them come from San José, Cartago and Alajuela.
