The government celebrates the data from the Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC) that show an increase of 125,000 new employments in the second quarter of 2017, compared to the second quarter of 2016.
On Sunday, during the traditional television broadcast, once again the government praised itself for accomplishing these figures, despite criticism from many sectors and the fact that unemployment has not fallen and that most new jobs are informal or in the public sector.
The creation of these new jobs reduced the unemployment rate in the country by 0.9% in that period, but the number of people without a job is around 193,000.
The increase in employment among non-salaried workers was 16.4% and in the public sector 15.2%, while in the private sector it was barely 0.9%.
The Executive himself acknowledged that most of these new jobs are informal, something he has tried to eradicate from the beginning.
The business sector was worried about this, since “informal employees represent unfair competition”.
