A 15-year-old Costa Rican girl died after being shot in the head by a 17-year-old friend while driving in a car, along with another friend named Cruz Abreu, 23, In Orlando, United States.
Both Cruz and the 17-year-old girl told the American authorities that the shooting was accidental. However, they did not take her to any hospital but left her lying on the side of the road.
The 15-year-old died on April 11th on Ziegler Road near the Orange Blossom Trail. Her body was found one day later. However, the details of what happened were published on Thursday by the Orlando Sentinel, after having access to more than 400 pages of court documents on the case.
The night of the crime, she and Cruz went to pick up the 17-year-old friend. According to police reports, the girl had escaped to live with Cruz, a drug dealer.
Cruz’s friend, who is not charged, told investigators that Cruz was paranoid and asked them to help him clean his apartment because he was afraid the police would arrest him for drug sales.
They even accompanied Cruz in the car to sell some narcotics. As she counted the money she told the 17-year-old to take a gun she had in the back seat in case anyone tried to assault them.
Then, the gun slipped and as she tried to take again she accidentally pulled the trigger, hurting the 15-year old in the throat.
The 17-year-old explained that she told Cruz to take her to a hospital or to stop to call an ambulance, but he refused. He left the body on the side of the road and took the other girl home.
The mother of the young Costa Rican told investigators that her daughter went out to say goodbye to a friend, since she was going to return to Costa Rica to live with her father, because her mother could not control her anymore.
The teenager’s bedroom was empty, there were no clothes and her bed was made.
Her belongings were found two weeks later by a man who was moving soil.
Cruz faces a lawsuit for having given a gun to a minor.
