President Chinchilla is worried that presidential hopefuls will reverse policy on the Pacific Alliance trade pact, which would remove trade barriers between Costa Rica and Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. Chinchilla signed the country onto a roadmap for the Pacific Alliance just 18 days ago.
Now, both candidates in the runoff election are signaling they may not continue support for the trade agreement. The push back came when trade groups, worried about foreign competition put pressure on both Luis Guillermo Solis (PAC) and Johnny Araya (PLN).
