Costa Rica has become a popular destination for whale watching. The arrival of these cetaceans to the Pacific coast has become a show that both national and foreigners want to witness.
The warm waters, climatic conditions and geographical position that serves as a marine biological bridge are some of the factors that allow the arrival of these mammals to national seas.
Although, it is possible to witness whales in the country throughout the year, the season in the Pacific begins at the end of July; but the months of September and October are the best for watching humpback whales and their offspring.
According to official data from iFish Quepos, during the sighting season between 150 and 200 tourists per day depart from “Marina Pez Vela” in Quepos. The high popularity of this tourist activity has made it one of the most important economic income for coastal communities.
While the South Pacific is one of the most popular destinations for this activity, little by little the Central Pacific has been positioning itself as a reference point for this practice.
Marina Pez Vela is the second largest marina in Central America and generates more than 500 jobs in the country. This makes it the main axis of the increase of tourists in the area to enjoy the sighting and sport fishing.
