The event was held in Peru
Inmaculada School, located in Quepos, was recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on Education for Sustainable Development (EDS) and Disaster Risk Management (DRM).
The school participated along with 5,000 other education centers in the continent in the Continental Schools with Sustainable Future Rally, and it won the first place of the “Live with Hope: Innovation for Sustainability” award.
The competition seeks to transform educational institutions into models of education, scientific and technological development for sustainability and disaster risk management for the local community.
The winning schools were selected by UNESCO, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Management (UNISDR), the Organization of American States (OAS) and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
Costa Rica also classified with the San Francisco de Peñas Blancas schools in San Ramón and Pedro Pérez Zeledón in San Isidro del General, which obtained the second and third place respectively.
In addition, the schools 15 de Septiembre in San José, Palomo in Orosi and Liceo León Cortés Castro, were included as part of the 13 finalist institutions and recognized as international emblematic schools for having obtained the highest scores.
