This year, 50 Costa Rican breast cancer survivors received a light of hope, thanks to a campaign of nipple tattoos, which brought Colombian artist Fabian Henao to the country.
The three-dimensional tattoo seeks to assimilate the natural shape of the breast, which has undergone a mastectomy, and thus give back a very important part to the woman. In order to have more beneficiaries, a campaign seeks support to be able to fulfill this dream for more survivors.
“Tinta esperanza” get to this country thanks to an alliance between the National Breast Cancer Solidarity Foundation (FUNDESO) and Payless stores. The latter donated the cost of the tattoo artist’s visit.
Ana Corrales, country manager of Payless, explained that in order to help more people, now they are releasing a new campaign that will provide financial resources for the sponsorship of the artist.
The campaign we did in June was a success. It was the first time we could have three-dimensional surgical tattoo for free in Costa Rica… The idea now is to make a second campaign for February 2018, and hopefully we can bring the tattoo artist for two weeks and be able to double or exceed the number of people,”
said the spokeswoman.
The idea of the organizers is to be able to continue working hard and bring the tattoo artist at least twice a year, as the demand is great.
Payless’s Breast Cancer Awareness campaign will raise money through the sale of bracelets and a special edition of Champion tennis to bring the Colombian tattoo artist back to the country.
