November 2017 ended yesterday as the month with the highest number of earthquakes in Costa Rica in the last five years.
This was revealed by the monthly report issued by the National Seismological Network (RSN). The document states that the country accounted for 471 earthquakes, the month with the highest number of events since October 2012, when there was seismicity related to the Nicoya Earthquake (Sámara).
According to the RSN in the eleventh month of 2017, there were 41 detected earthquakes, while in October there were only 16.
Most of the earthquakes in November 2017 were concentrated in the Central Pacific, South Pacific and the central part of the country, some minor earthquake groups were located in the North and North Pacific,”

The document point out the seismic sequence that originated on the coast in front of Parrita-Jacó, especially with the earthquake on Sunday, November 12th at 8:28 pm when there was a tremor of 6.3 degrees located 19 km south of Jacó. Almost 300 aftershocks followed that event.
