The beach as a favorite destination on Christmas, New Year’s Eve or to enjoy in January. But is important that, in addition to the logistics, you don’t forget to prepare and treat your skin for sun exposure.
Guillermo Cortés, a dermatologist at Clínica Bíblica, emphasized that the damage of the sun on the skin is the result of radiation. This is an energy produced by ultraviolet rays type A and type B, mainly.
These rays are always present, since we see light until nightfall. But the highest concentration is between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. The rays can damage the cells and therefore cause skin cancer,”
said Cortés.
Therefore, the recommendation is to avoid the sun between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm because it is harmful and can cause cancer and burns.
It is also important to be clear that there are two types of protection against the sun: one physical and the other chemical. External elements such as umbrellas, appropriate clothing, caps, wide hats and glasses are part of the physical protection. It is also important to look for the shadows.
The second kind of protection is achieved with sunscreen lotions. You should look for one suitable for your type of skin and activity to be performed.
Everyone has a factor number, which refers to the time it takes to act. FPS 50 is the most powerful and it lasts up to four hours, so it must be reapplied after that period,”
explained Cortés.
If you will be visit the sea, rivers or pools, use a waterproof sunscreen 20 minutes before coming into contact with the water so that the skin absorbs it.
In the case of children, you can apply a specific sunscreen for them, after six months old (before that they could develop an allergy).
