The Banco de Leche Materna Carolina Vega Foundation urgently requires donors of breast milk who reside in La Sabana, Tibás, Heredia, Moravia, Guadalupe, Tres Ríos, Escazú, or Santa Ana.
According to the institution’s officials, the only milk bank, located in San Ramón, is not receiving enough milk per week, so they call on mothers of babies who are 6 months old or less to please donate.
People who wish to donate must be in excellent health conditions, not under any medication, alcohol, cigarettes or drugs and with no recent tattoos (no less than a year).
On the other hand, the donors are asked to live in the Greater Metropolitan Area and have the availability to travel only once to the San Ramón de Alajuela Hospital. They will be subject to blood tests and a personal interview for certification. On that same visit, the first breast milk extraction will be performed.
When the results have ruled out diseases and infections, the person becomes a certified donor with a code that will be used for the labeling of breast milk.
The exams are completely free for the donors and if you do not have transportation to travel to San Ramón, the Fundación Banco de Leche Humana Catalina Vega offers free transportation from La Sabana Park.
If you wish to become a donor you can call: 8854-6048 or send an email to donadoras@donandoleche.org with your full name, phone number, age of your baby and place of residence.
