A telluric movement occurred at 1:35 a.m this Friday and woke Costa Ricans. The movement was reported as significant in various areas of San José; Heredia, Alajuela, and even in Puntarenas, among other places.
The preliminary report of the National Seismological Network indicates the earthquake had a 5.3 magnitude and the epicenter was located 11 km southwest of San Carlos de Tarrazú.
The Vulcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) stated that the earthquake had a 5.4 magnitude and it was located 24.8 km Southwest of San Marcos, Tarrazú, San José.
Reports indicate that the movement was perceived as very strong in Alajuela, Barva de Heredia, Desamparados, Buenos Aires of Puntarenas, Sabanilla de Montes de Oca, downtown Heredia, Grecia, and sectors of San José.
