Young people join efforts to bring hope to native’s territory

April 22, 2018 by Staff News Writer

A group of young people joined efforts to take hope to the community of Nimarí, a native Tayní camp located in Valle la Estrella.

They came together to develop the first project of the organization APO-FU, which aims to create a home-office to provide medical care to the residents of the area.

According to Javier Camacho, one of the leaders of the group, the residents of this community must walk up to four hours to receive medical attention. Their idea is having a positive impact in the quality of life of about 20 families.

Camacho explained that they will also work on the improvement of organic farming processes through techniques such as composting, dry toilet latrines, rainwater collection ponds, and a drinking water well for the community.

To obtain resources, these young people also work in small areas where they grow vegetables and sell them mainly in Heredia. In addition, courses and workshops are offered for the benefit of the project.

The APO-FU organization is now two years old and has projects in Brazil, Costa Rica, and Africa.
