Guaranteeing gender balance hinders the creation of some of the 20 committees of the Legislative Assembly.
The president of the Congress, Carolina Hidalgo, received on Thursday the proposals of the seven parliamentary fractions for the integration of said committees. However, she warned that she will review them in detail because she found inconsistencies to guarantee the principle of gender parity in some of them, such as the commissions on Finance and Economic Affairs.
The head of the National Liberation Party (PLN) bloc, Carlos Ricardo Benavides, confirmed that Hidalgo told them to respect gender balance in the integration of commissions. Benavides explained that by the principle of proportionality, the PLN, with 17 seats, should have a representation of 30% in the commissions.
Legislator Jonathan Prendas, from the National Restoration Party (PRN), said they proposed to participate in 95% of the committees and indicated that they have special interest in Treasury, Control of Income and Public Expenditure, Appointments and Consultations of Constitutionality.
