Álvaro Pereira, Acting Chief Economist of the OECD, gave some remarks on the fiscal situation in Costa Rica, demanding
No more excuses! There is no more time, it is very important to move forward with the fiscal issue.”
According to the representative,
if there is no swift progress in the tax reform there can be dramatic consequences for people, companies, and for Costa Rica.”
Pereira explained the OECD’s vision on the issue of taxation and economic stability before a group of legislators gathered on Thursday at the Blue Castle of the Legislative Assembly. The Minister of Finance, Rocío Aguilar, supported Pereira’s position and explained the need for the Assembly to be able to issue a definitive resolution on the subject soon.
On Monday, the Presidency of the Legislature must issue a resolution where it will decide which motions may be discussed in committee, with the aim of returning the project to the plenary -if possible- for September, although there are legislators who already speak of a delay for October.
Pereira agreed with all the measures proposed by the Treasury.
