Alvarado will visit cantons with red alert

July 16, 2018 by Staff News Writer

President Carlos Alvarado announced that on Tuesday he will visit Turrialba and Siquirres, while overflying Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí and Matina. These are the most affected areas under the heavy rains.

The president said that the session of the Government Council on Tuesday was canceled so that several leaders could accompany him to this tour, which will be held in the afternoon after the morning report of the Emergency Operations Center (COE).

The participation of the president of the National Commission of Emergencies, Alexander Solís and the head of Prevention and Research, Lidier Esquivel, was also confirmed.

Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí, Matina, Turrialba, and Siquirres are the four cantons where a red alert was issued by the CNE. More than 1500 people have been affected and are now in 21 shelters.
