The National Meteorological Institute (IMN) made a preventive call before the eventual arrival of El Niño for the last months of the year.
With this, the country would have a dry season starting in October with an emphasis on the country’s Pacific, while in the Caribbean the rains could increase.
According to Juan Carlos Fallas, director of the IMN, the precipitations will decrease gradually and even the temperature of the air will increase up to three decrees higher.
Alex Solís, head of the National Emergency Commission, said that a high-level commission will meet next week and face the possible emergency. He said that a strategy will be developed with all the institutions to create a preventive phase.
The authorities recalled that in 2015 the country was affected by the El Niño phenomenon mainly in Guanacaste.
The leader also called for prevention due to forest fires that tend to increase and complicate during these times.
