The former vice president of the last administration, Ana Helena Chacón Echeverría, is the new Costa Rican ambassador to Spain, as confirmed by the Presidency on Wednesday. Chacón replaces Doris Osterlof, who was dismissed on June 30th.
The new ambassador joins the list of political appointments of this government, because despite having studies in International Relations, she does have a not diplomatic career.
Before becoming vice president in the first PAC government, Ana Helena Chacón maintained a long membership in the Christian Social Unity Party (PUSC). With this group, she arrived at the Congress in 2006. Four years before, in the administration of Abel Pacheco (2002 -2006) she was Vice Minister of the Internal Affairs.
Her ties with the red and blue force broke in 2010. At the time she claimed it was for ethical reasons. In that same year she decided to become a founding member of the Democratic and Social Center Party, which was unable to renew its internal structures, which prevented her from registering candidates for popular election positions in the 2014 elections.
During the 2014 election campaign, former President Luis Guillermo Solís called her to be his vice-presidential candidate. Thirteen days after having finished her term as vice president, Chacón ran to join as a member of the Acción Ciudadana Party (PAC).
