The Spanish National Police identified a new type of drug shipment from Costa Rica to Europe. Drug traffickers sent the drug hidden in postal packages that first go through Miami to later reach Europe.
The shipment was discovered several days ago. However, the Spanish authorities stopped the receiver last Thursday once he arrived to pick up the package.
As reported by the National Police of Spain, the drug was directed to a resident subject in the city of Zaragoza. It was a kilo of cocaine that traveled hidden inside a metal disk belonging to some type of machinery.
The US authorities let the package go, but warned their counterparts in Spain to find the person responsible for the shipment. That is how they stopped the recipient, a 43-year-old man without a criminal record who lives t in Zaragoza.
The Customs Surveillance Service and the Tax Agency participated in the operations. Both are dependencies of the Spanish government.
This was the second shipment of drugs from Costa Rica detected in Spain last week. Between Wednesday and Thursday the authorities of that country seized six tons of cocaine in the city of Málaga. The drug was transported in containers loaded with Costa Rican bananas, which came from Limón. It was the second highest confiscation recorded to date in Europe.
