The Minister of Security, Michael Soto Rojas, celebrated the decrease in homicides numbers at the end of 2018. The data provided shows there were 587 cases, while in 2017 the figure was 603 cases.
We took all the data of the homicides that occurred in previous years and in the first months and we made a detailed analysis of where the homicides took place, at what time, and what day… If we saw that there were conflicts between gangs we put the police there. The police removed weapons and tried to prevent cases. There is an example in Limón where we managed to stop a vehicle that was carrying a gagged subject, who according to his story was abducted to be killed. We worked on analysis, strategy and criminal intelligence,”
commented the hierarch.
Soto did make it clear that there are homicides that are difficult to prevent and, for example, cases of domestic violence have increased, as have the fights. But he also explained that the mid-year projection amounted to 645 homicides.
