The Minister of Tourism, María Amalia Revelo, and the President of Iberia, Luis Gallego, signed on Thursday an agreement for the promotion of Costa Rica in Europe. The announcement was made within the framework of the Fitur International Tourism Fair 2019.
Revelo stressed that the agreement will strengthen the friendship ties of Costa Rican tourism with one of its most important strategic allies in Spain.
Four decades ago Iberia connected Costa Rica with Europe with a direct flight for the first time. Since then, it offers air transport services to connect travelers on the traditional San José-Madrid route to Barajas International Airport.
The promotion campaign includes actions in the official communication channels of Iberia, among which the Round Iberia Magazine stands out, on the airline’s social networks and on the website www.iberia.com, projecting an increase in demand that invites the use of other Iberia connections in the rest of Europe.
The Costa Rican Institute of Tourism will develop a cooperative campaign of joint promotion with Iberia for three years with an investment that is yet to be defined.
In 2018, 480,000 European tourists visited Costa Rica, and 69,000 of them were Spanish, according to official data.
The observation of flora and fauna (89%) stands out among the activities most enjoyed by Spanish tourists in Costa Rica, as well as basking in the sun and beach activities (87%), visiting volcanoes (73%) and hiking trails (63%), according to multiple response questionnaires.
Iberia operates daily and has direct flights between Spain and Costa Rica. In this route it introduced Premium Tourist – a new intermediate cabin designed for customers who usually fly in economy class, but who are willing to pay a little more to travel more comfortably and enjoy additional services on board and on land.
