The Ministry of Security announced on Monday a decrease in crimes against property.
In January 2019, there were 4,206 crimes of this type, 601 less than in January 2018.
These crimes include vehicle theft, items stolen from vehicles, home theft, robbery, assault, burglary, and theft of livestock.
Security Minister Michael Soto explained that the data also reflect the reduction of crimes committed against people: they fell by 10% in the case of thefts (-151) and 9% in the case of assaults (- 112).
As for homicides, the Minister reported that to date there have been 53 murders, most of them due to retaliation and the use of firearms.
