The cougar that was wandering around in Tibás on Sunday was released in a safe area by authorities of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE).
Through the entity’s Facebook wall it was reported that it was a young adult male in good physical condition and completely wild.
The specialists assessed the animal and took blood and tissue samples for DNA. Then, they put a satellite collar and released him in a safe place.
The animal was seen by neighbors of Linda Vista de Tibás, in the north of the canton at around 9 am on Sunday. Subsequently, the animal wandered through courtyards in residential areas.
MINAE officials reported that the presence of these animals in the area is possible since the Central Valley is surrounded by rural areas and protected wildlife areas. These wild animals can use the banks of rivers as crossing areas and in search of armadillos, raccoons and other wild species that serve them as food.
Pumas usually flee out of fear of humans.
