Forest fire affects water supply in wild refuge in Guanacaste

April 1, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The Wildlife Refuge Bahía Junquillal will remain closed this Monday, according to the Guanacaste Conservation Area.

The measure, in force since March 29th, is due to the impacts of an important forest fire – which has not yet been controlled- that compromised the water supply to that site.

The closure will allow to conclude several tasks in the pipe that allow the correct functioning of the water service offered to the visitors.

On March 27th, new heat sources started due to the wind that began to accelerate, sending them up to 700 meters, which led to the mobilization of more personnel and support for neighboring conservation areas.

Due to the characteristics of the area, the forest fire can leave the protected area and thus affect the closest community, Cuajiniquil.

The uncontrolled burning of neighboring farms are the main reasons that caused this forest fire.

In addition to the danger to the health of people and animals living on the site, species of precious wood trees, among others, are at risk.
