For the next two years, the Embassy of the United States will train pilots of the National Service of Surveillance Area with four UH-1ST helicopters valued at $50 million, approximately.
The Aviation Training Program of that country is intended to give Costa Rica knowledge and, possibly, transfer the four aircraft to expand the national security scheme.
These aircraft have a capacity for 13 people each, and they reach a speed of up to 205 kilometers per hour.
According to the Minister of Public Security, Michael Soto, they’ll use these helicopters to fight against organized crime, common crime and for humanitarian aid.
On the other hand, the US ambassador in Costa Rica, Sharon Day, assured that this donation and training will not be the last one this year, since the American nation is happy with the results of the cooperation with Costa Rica regarding security.
