There are 27 cases of malaria in the country, most of them in the Northern Zone. To avoid the increase in cases, the Presidency of the Republic and the Ministry of Health declared a “State of Emergency due to the issue of malaria vector control.”
This will expedite the use of resources for monitoring, visits, and payment of travel expenses so that health personnel can go to areas where there is risk of an outbreak.
Rodrigo Marín, from the Directorate of Health Surveillance, explained that this declaration comes at a “good time”. The concern of the authorities began last year, as there was a report of 108 cases of this virus, which incidentally, is considered one of the most lethal in the world and is spread by a mosquito.
Marín said that attention has been focused on the South Zone, but that in the last six weeks, there have been no more positive cases of malaria reported.
