After almost 11 years of judging the US justice system, the person responsible for the death of a retired elderly couple was recaptured in Costa Rica.
Here, far from the jail bars of the American prison system, he worked in construction in the Central Pacific and even practiced mixed martial art. He also got married and became a father.
On April 20th, 2003, this man, named De la Hoz, was driving under the influence of alcohol and crashed against the vehicle of Cubans Victor and Olga Lisabeth, who were going to mass in the south of Miami, Florida.
After several years of legal struggles, in 2008 De la Hoz accepted the guilt of the charges for the death of the couple. However, before sentencing, he fled from US territory. In his absence, a Florida court sentenced him to 12 years in prison and immediately issued an international arrest warrant against him.
Apparently, the accused moved to Costa Rican territory and this was verified by police authorities in the United States in 2016. Finally, last March, he was arrested by agents of the Interpol and subsequently expelled from Costa Rica.
The lawyer of the accused indicated that he recognized that fleeing was “a mistake” and now he is ready to comply with the sentence.
