The Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó said on Monday that people who had promised to support a military uprising against the government of Nicolás Maduro last Tuesday did not comply with the agreement. However, he is optimistic about an early political change.
There is conversation (…) with all civil and military officials,”
said Guaidó.
Guaidó, recognized as president in charge of Venezuela by more than 50 countries, also believes that the weakness of Maduro will generate a change of government soon.
Last Tuesday, Guaidó and his co-founder Leopoldo López led the failed uprising of a small group of soldiers at the La Carlota air base, the main one in Caracas.
But his call to the Armed Forces to join the rebellion did not crystallize and 25 insurgents asked for asylum in the Brazilian embassy, while Lopez, rescued by them from his house arrest, took refuge in the residence of the Spanish ambassador.
