After the strike call in the health sector for August 5th and 6th, the Executive President of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), Román Macaya, insists on “having the patient in the center” and guaranteeing medical attention.
And it’s not just about emergency services; Macaya emphasized that for policyholders and their families, it is vital to be able to receive scheduled appointments and surgeries, for which they have waited months or years.
Nearly 20 unions in the health sector announced a general strike due to the “breach” of the agreement
signed on February 20th, between the health sector, the Executive President of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), the Minister of Labor and the Minister of Planning, regarding the application of the fiscal rule.”
The unions, led by the National Union of Employees of the Caja and Social Security (Undeca), indicated that if the government refuses to negotiate, street measures will increase.
